Church History

Lincoln Congregational Church of Brockton, MA  was founded on April 9, 1897. The first pastor was Rev. Sebastian D. Turner. The church prospered under his leadership.

At some time in December 1900, Rev. Turner and members laid the cornerstone for a new church on Appleton Street. In January 1901, the new building was dedicated.

In 1919 the Rev. Martin Jenning accepted the call to Lincoln Church as pastor. It was through his efforts that the Wales Avenue Free Baptist Church was purchased.

Lincoln Church was dedicated at the 13 Wales Avenue location on May 2, 1921.  Over the years seventeen pastors have served at Lincon Congregational Church.

In November of 1986, Rev. Crayton was called to Lincoln Church as pastor, after having served as interim since the first Sunday in January 1986.

There have been many changes since then. Lincoln Church is now affiliated with the American Baptist Churches. The church has grown and been in need of more space and, because of this growth, the church purchased 1.8 acres of land on Oak Street to expand with the many ministries of the church. Lincoln Church continues to reach out to all nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
